21.11.2022

FGBI "ARRIAH" is a leading veterinary research and production institution in Russia. At present, the Centre is operated as a testing and research facility for control of livestock animal diseases, as well as a Reference Centre of the Rosselkhoznadzor. Currently, the institution offers more than 100 biological products for animal use and about 80 veterinary vaccines. FGBI "ARRIAH" researchers are continuously involved in development of new generation products. The world's first CARNIVAC-COV vaccine intended for protection of animals from the novel coronavirus infection was developed by FGBI "ARRIAH" specialists. It is noteworthy that FGBI "ARRIAH" is the oldest animal health institution in Russia. The main task that was primarily set for the Institute was to develop methods and tools for diagnosis and prevention of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Anti-FMD vaccines inducing strong immunity in animals were needed for the disease control. Such vaccines were not available in the country before the institute was established. The Institute successfully managed the initial task of developing effective anti-FMD vaccines, diagnostic, as well as measures to combat this disease. Later, the Institute's scope of research activities included fish diseases, rabies, prion diseases, slow viral infections of small ruminants.
In 2022 a large-scale reorganization of the Institution was completed, which led to acquisition of FSBI CNMVL by the FGBI "ARRIAH". Now the FGBI "ARRIAH" branches are represented in 26 Subjects of the Russian Federation, primarily, as veterinary testing laboratories. About 3 million tests are conducted annually in these laboratories. The range of FGBI "ARRIAH" activities is quite extensive. It includes control of the epizootic situation in Russia and globally, ensuring the quality and safety of food products, seed production, agrochemistry, soil fertility, quality and safety of grain and compound feeds. It should be noted that the analysis of product quality and safety indicators is one of ARRIAH's main tasks.
In addition to research, the Institute is actively engaged in export activities, being the winner of the All-Russian award "Exporter of the Year". FGBI "ARRIAH" collaborates with nearly forty countries, supplies products to 25 countries worldwide.
The World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) has awarded three international statuses to FGBI "ARRIAH": "OIE Regional Reference Laboratory for FMD" (1995), "OIE Collaborating Centre for Diagnosis and Control of Animal Diseases for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Transcaucasia" (1997), "OIE Regional Reference Laboratory for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease (2018). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has officially nominated the institution the "FAO Reference Centre for Foot-and-Mouth Disease for Central Asia and Western Eurasia" (2013), the "FAO Reference Centre for Foot-and-Mouth Disease" (2020).
According to experts’ opinion, the FGBI "ARRIAH" is one of the best diagnostic and educational institutions in the country, demonstrating professionalism and high accuracy of research, backed up by many years of experience.
